New to Linux? We're glad you stopped by. There is lots of
information about Linux available on the Internet, and it would be
impossible for us to duplicate it all or even link to it all.
This page is here as a "quick start guide" to show where some common,
well-known information sources are, and a couple hints on how to
find more information.
Most major vendors' websites are a good place to start. Lots of Linux information is not vendor-specific. If you look at the installation instructions or hardware compatability lists from various vendors, you will find more similarities than differences. Speaking of hardware compatability, there are many ways to see what works with Linux. One, like I mentioned, are the vendors' sites, like Red Hat and Mandrake. Also, there are sites that cater to certain types of hardware, like laptops and Sun hardware. More than anything else, there are hundreds of sites with various types of general Linux info. One of the biggest is the Linux Documentation Project. Otherwise, search engines are a good way to go. Google is one of the best and most popular and even has a special Linux area. (To see the differnece, search for 'video driver' at each site.) Finally, consider participating in a Linux User Group, either online or in person. LEAP-CF serves the Orlando, Florida area, with monthly meetings and installfests, and our mailing lists and chat are accessible to everyone. |
