Part of just about all Linux projects, associations, and user groups is the mailing list.  LEAP provides two primary lists for its members and guests.  Anyone can -and is encouraged- to participate in the following mailing lists.  Subscribing to a particular list is as easy as filling out an online form and then confirming the subscription via email.  Several options are available for our lists, including the ability to receive the list messages in digests rather than receiving each individual message.  Please read our mailing list rules below before subscribing to any of our mailing lists.

LEAP's General Mailing List (LeapList)

A general mailing list is a vital part of any Linux user group.  This is where you will find all of the Linux/Open Source discussions going on.  As noted in the rules, this is a *Linux* related list, so please try to keep your topics to that.
To subscribe or to change your subscription options, please see the LeapList page!

LEAP's "Banished Subjects" List (LeapBS)

There will always be conversation that are not Linux-related that people like to discuss.  In order to facilitate these discussions, we provide the "Banished Subjects" list (or "BS List" as we like to refer to it :).  To subscribe or to change your subscription options, please see the BS List page!

LEAP's "PC Support" List (PC_Support)

This is the list for all PC questions that aren't related to Linux and therefore don't belong on the general list. Windows, hardware, and any other PC-related questions are welcome here. To subscribe or to change your subscription options, please see the PC Support List Page!

LEAP's "Announce" List (LeapAnnounce)

Want to be reminded of every LEAP event? This list is low volume and moderated. In general, the only posts here come from our automated reminder system and will give you reasonable advance notice of all LEAP events. In general, this means Meeting and Installfest reminders. To subscribe or to change your subscription options, please see the LEAP Announce List page!

Some Basic Mailing List Rules:

  • This mailing list is a resource for members and guests of LEAP. The topic of this forum is 'Linux'. Everyone is expected to be courteous and to avoid profanity and personal insults. The LEAP Executive Committee and email administrators it appoints will guide the list by example, by suggestions, or in extreme cases of disruptive posts, by removal of posting rights.
  • We are more than willing to provide lists for other topics and discussions (such as the "bs" list), however non-Linux related posts generally get in the way as well as frustrate alot of the list members and guests.
  • When replying to messages, try to [clip] parts of the original message(s) in order to make the thread easier to read. This not only helps keep the size of the messages down, but it helps everyone keep up with the topics.
  • Clip any email headers from messages that you reply to. They are often longer than the meaningful content.
  • Limit your message signatures (aka .sigs) to 4 lines or less, if possible. Again, this is to keep the message sizes down.
  • Do not post HTML-formatted email. This really irritates those with non-HTML email clients (PINE, anyone?) and makes the message nearly impossible to read for those who only get the daily digest. This one is extremely important.
  • Do not post an entire page/site :) from the web. If you have something interesting to tell the group, PLEASE share it. However, we ask that you quote the pertinent parts and include a URL to the article or site for those who are interested.

We encourage all list subscribers, new and old, to post freely. However, if you are new to mailing lists, you may wish to read this page to avoid experiencing your own personal baptism by fire.

Enjoy!
